All of my work arises in the thrill of discovery, not only in the way an archeologist unearths an artifact, as many of my pieces appear to be, but also in the way a child discovers a sharks tooth or an arrow head. In many ways I’m not creating sculpture as much as I am discovering my own relics. Much the same holds true for my functional work. In my eyes even the cup still hot out of the kiln is an ancient object, usually with a great history. The nature and process of wood firing only increases this feeling for me.
